Entrepreneurs from hell: Get informed

Revamp Construction Company Limited* or RC2 is an upcoming construction company owned by a young promising Architecture graduate with a passion for designing high end residential properties. After securing a middle size office in Nairobi Central Business District he now settles to make the office functional and thus the company.  One thing the company needs is a functioning ICT department since the owner of RC2 Knows too well that in the modern world, without ICT solutions your work is bound to fail. So Samson, the owner of the company, needs a business support system tailored to his needs and thus he engages the services of Company ABC an ICT solutions provider.
Christopher who is the owner of the ABC Company does the quotation after the deal is sealed and a down payment of Kshs 200,000 is done. When Christopher went to seal the deal, he was driving a sleek grey Nissan Noah; he was also smartly dressed in black expensive business suit and shiny pair of shoes. He also had a very nice briefcase and a big brand new laptop; a clear sign that he is very serious with his business.
After the initial payment is done, Chris suddenly gets busy and unavailable. Samson tries to contact Chris but most of his calls go unanswered and so are his emails. Unknown to Sam, he has just fallen a victim of one of the entrepreneurs from hell, who we are going to read about next.

40 Facebook Comments that speaks volumes on how Frustrated Kenyans are with KPLC

Today I decided to go through Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited’s Facebook page and to say the least I am shocked by what I see.
The Facebook page is full of concerns from KPLC customers which remains totally unanswered. There are complains all over, some bordering on utter frustration caused by KPLC poor services to the area.
As a part of my curiosity I decided to copy the comments from frustrated Kenyans as found in KPLC’s Facebook page as they are and posted them in my blog for all to see. I only copied a few of them, but there are numerous!

Read them and think, is KPLC serving Kenyans or just enriching itself at the expense of helpless Kenyans?

Find out why EXPLOITATION will not end soon

What is to exploit?
This is to take advantage of somebody: to take selfish or unfair advantage of a person or situation, usually for personal gain.
In our modern society there is little hope of exploitation ending soon and am going to try and explain why it won’t end soon. Consider this scenario, *Andrew has a Diploma in Information Technology and can do a wide range of works as per His profession. But due to economic stress, few and highly competitive job openings available; He has not been able to secure a job.
After two years of job-hunting, he finally lands a job in a privately owned company. Due to desperation of having had no specific source of income he readily accepted the offer of Kshs 10,000 per month salary job. He was among the few employees in the company earning the same amount. Since the job was located in urban area, he rented a house of Kshs 3,000. The rest of the money was used for other of his budget allocations.

ENEMIES: DEALING WITH THEM

The modern society is recently facing a lot of security challenges arising from situations you could in some way consider as arising from hatred that cannot be accounted for. It is true that the society cannot do without this but you can reduce its proximity to you by fighting it as an individual. At the end, individual efforts put together may change a lot of things in the area of individual and national security. Your must know that you should beware of friends that you are not sure are friends. There is this saying that, “if there is anything that you must fear most, that thing is man.”

BRAGGING, BRAGGING, AND BRAGGING! Is it a normal behavior or a disorder plaguing the modern society?

It is on a typical Friday evening. Karis and Joel are on their favorite nyama choma joint in a group of friends and they all are sipping their favorite beer brand. “Hey, didn’t I tell you the other day that I will soon buy a Panasonic Video Camera before Christmas which I will use to shoot my sister’s wedding video who lives in United States of America? Guess What, I bought it yesterday at a cost of Kshs 260,000. I was thinking it may cost more but was surprised to find that it was so cheap.” Joel ostentatiously said. “My sister will be coming aboard the new Virgin Atlantic Boeing 767 which is set to be making its maiden journey to Africa this week. Karis, will you join me to go and meet my sister?” To the surprise of everyone in the restaurant who was eaves-dropping the heated one sided conversation, Karis turned down the offer. You have nearly guessed what type of scenario I am talking about. Why did I give the above scenario? Read on and know.

OFFICE POLITICS, Be smart and Informed

Consider this scenario from a modern work place in our day to day career life.
*Names are fiction.
It is 10:36 AM. A group of workers are chatting during a tea break. “As from tomorrow the director said that all the submissions from the field work entries on sales shall be submitted before noon and failure to do so will be met by a disciplinary action, which might mean getting fired.” , said Husna who every one dreads due to her usual cutting remarks and ‘close connections’ with the company director. And she continues, “On top of that, all entries must be typed and printed and must be on a paper which has the company’s letter head”.
From the following day, almost everyone complied with the ‘new rules of operations’ from the director. What they did not know is that the director said none of the ‘new rules’. Husna just came up with the rules and knowing that the director is a harsh no-nonsense man, took advantage of it to holistically lie to everyone to her advantage. Initially it was her work to receive the entries as written by field officers on their data collection sheets, type them and have them with a company letter head, file them in accordance to departments and dates of submission and present the whole work to the director at the end of the month. Why am I giving this imaginary scenario that replays itself so often in our work places? Read on….

Important People to Know and be in-touch in our WORK PLACES
Andrew’s phone rings on Monday morning and he reaches for it. At the other end is Jacqueline, a Company’s secretary who works at one of the regional centers of the company. “How do I switch on this new Epson Scanner and how is it operated? I have tried everything in the manual but do not seem to get things right.” Andrew being the company’s Information Technology Help Desk Personnel, this is an easy task for him.  “Make sure all the power cords are properly fixed, switch it on using the red button which is beneath the sticker marked EPSON INC, then……”. And we can be sure Andrew solved the secretary’s problem. Why am I giving you this scenario that is repeated almost every day in many work places in our society and in our careers? If you wish to know, then read on.
