12 REASONS WHY I do not SUPPORT Raila

Raila, an enigma, a mysterious man, the man who is the fulcrum of Kenyan politics, a man so much loved as well as hated by as many, a man full of humor and entertaining, a man whose eloquence makes it worth listening to him, a man who has lived trying to become a president in Kenya for the longest time but failed just so close to the presidency, etc.

I hereby declare I will not support his presidency bid, and here are my reasons why. It is not a must for you to read but for the sake of those who keep saying I fail to support Raila because he is a Luo, I hereby stand to prove you wrong if you read through the 12 reasons why I am not ready to support Raila.

  1. To Raila, a system is only competent, acceptable and fair if it favors him, but if it remains neutral and stands for what is right, true and democratic then it is not credible, not acceptable and it is unfair. In fact, he marshals people to reject all systems that do not favor him, however right and excellent the systems are.
  2. Raila is a hypocrite. Democracy only means supporting him and no one else, a philosophy which he has successfully sold to his followers who are even willing to die defending it. Moreover, he paints himself as father of democracy yet he wants to take the citizens’ democratic right away from them once elected i.e. people will no longer have the power to vote for president. He will change the constitution to favor that and implement a system which he has not revealed yet to the people.
  3. Raila is unfair to even his closest supporter, Kalonzo. He is only encouraging people to vote for ODM aspirants and completely ignores the other parties in NASA coalition until Kalonzo complained and was told he is free to campaign for his wiper members. An indication he is just using Kalonzo to get Kamba support but he does not value him at all. He has betrayed Kalonzo in the past and there is no reason to believe he won’t betray him again. Besides, he came with the term watermelon!
  4. He is very tribal. He pretends he is not tribal but he continues to advance a political theory of “41 against one”. If he indeed was not tribal, he would be advancing a political philosophy that includes all tribes in Kenya. In short, the truth is if he gets power, Kikuyus have no place in his government. And you wonder why hardly no Kikuyu supports him? They fear a Raila presidency because Raila has not inspired enough confidence in them to trust him as a president.
  5. Raila loves sycophancy and demigod worship. He loves working with people who worship him. He does not take competition kindly and hates criticism at all costs. When you try to challenge him or to even correct him, his militant army of sycophants tries to silence you by all means. He kicks you out of his camp once he realizes that you have outlived your usefulness. This hero worship has made him think that he is a political demigod. He thinks he is indispensable to Kenyan politics.
  6. He is power hungry. Raila is well-known as a key mastermind of the botched 1982 coup that aimed to topple the Moi regime. The coup left many civilians dead and property destroyed. He joined KANU thinking Moi would declare him the presidential candidate for KANU for the 2002 general elections. Moi and KANU overlooked him and instead chose Uhuru Kenyatta because he was intelligent to know that Uhuru was better placed to unite Kenyans than Raila. He defected in protest and formed the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). LDP later merged with other political parties to form the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC). He had struck a deal with Kibaki to make him Prime Minister, but Kibaki did not honor the deal. He left the government in protest and formed the opposition. In 2008, his advisors like Miguna Miguna advised him to opt for fresh elections after the disputed December polls. They were sure he would win. However, he took the shortcut and opted for the ‘nusu mkate’ coalition government. We all know what happened after that.
  7. He is a coward. If he won in 2007, then why did he back off and seal a deal of 50:50 sharing of power? In fact, I supported Raila in 2007 and I felt wasted seeing him give up what I supported him for. This is why I strongly believe he has never won any election because in pursuit of truth, even death to me is acceptable than stand with a lie to just live.  This is why no one ever takes him serious when he insists he wins and gets rigged out. I also supported his bid for national dialogue but what did he do? He overturned what he was fighting for and I was left confused why have I even supported him? Am not ready to support someone who keeps confusing me all the time, I want a straightforward leader not someone who cuts an unclear path in pursuit of what suits him best. (READ:

I AM ALSO FOR NATIONAL DIALOGUE: Let us have it peacefully.)

  8. His supporters are ever militant, violent and rowdy. Try having a debate with Raila supporters and you might just get beaten for nothing. They do not know how to support their issues or point of view without trying to force you or intimidate you into submission. They easily turn violent and think that being violent and intimidating others is a sign of strength. Worse, Raila does literally nothing to try to stop them or to show them that the only way into winning is by being logical not militant. I honestly do not want to be associated with warmongers, I did rather be inside the peaceful movement that I support. Besides anybody who is not pro Raila is seen as an enemy by Raila’s supporters. Several cases in point are what happened to Tuju, Nasleem and Livondo in different instances in Kisumu and Kibera. Just imagine that happening in the whole country. All the democratic space we have gained over the last few years will go down the drain. Any anti-Raila comment in the radio, on the street or on TV will earn you a proper beating if this man became the president. His supporters have indicated strong potential of turning into bullies if Raila gets into power. On the contrary, Uhuru’s supporters are peaceful, even if you insult Uhuru in front of them they will not even waste their time listening to you. They are all wise and peace-loving Kenyans where as Raila’s most supporters are violent and ever angry for who knows what.
  9. His cause has never been any democratic. Most if not all ODM internal elections and party primaries are married with irregularities, violence to outright rigging. It is not a wonder he always sings of being rigged out because what his system is competent in, Raila thinks is what runs the world. “Set a thief to catch a thief”, and in my belief it is Raila who knows how to rig more than anyone else.
  10. Even if you are evil, you are an angel if you support him. He pretends to fight corruption but all corrupt in his side he never even raises a finger against them. He will even defend you as long as you are corrupt but on his side. Besides he has been mentioned in corruption cases but he vehemently denies any involvement in them. That means if his government ever becomes real, corruption will be the order of the day and he will ensure no one ever knows about it and if known, he will ensure to silence any whistle blowers.
  11. Raila thinks Kenyans owe him presidency. On the contrary, democracy which he champions does not support that since in a fair democracy everyone is free to elect whoever he feels is competent to run the country regardless of anything. He has even sold out that philosophy to his supporters completely and try defining to them what democracy is and they might as well beat you up. Besides, they think democracy just means supporting Raila and nothing else. Is that democracy? Not at all.
  12. Raila is a law breaker. He is the law. He even goes ahead and calls for demonstrations even when the law is against them. This is because he knows his supporters who obey him without thinking twice would tear this country apart if anyone dares to arrest him. This means, he literally rides on the tide of lawlessness (which often results in property damage and loss of lives) and since the government loves peace, it just lets him have his way until he gets tired. I would feel so unsafe to have a president who does not give regard to the law and this is why I will not support Raila.

For these 12 reasons, I sincerely wish to say, I cannot support Raila as a president, and I am willing to persuade anyone willing to listen and reason not to vote for Raila as a president.
No, I do not hate Raila as some think, I do not fail to support him because he is not of my tribe, but as long as the 12 points are evident, let me vote for someone else. I am willing to support Raila if he changes, of which am sure he cannot.

Thank you.
