6 KENYA’S SOCIETY Enemies we need to eliminate

With the just concluded general elections and all the pledges that the incoming government had promised to Kenyans, there are some problems that if they remain non resolved Kenyan society will not enjoy stability and prosperity as we so much anticipate. There are the problems that can be tackled at individual level before the government comes in to aid the public towards eradicating that problem all together and without the help of Kenyan citizens, the government can hardly fulfill its roles in the society.
Kenya is has reached a time when we all are anticipating for real changes with the new systems of governance where we have county governors, senators etc as we elected them that the previous governments did not have. But before we start putting too many hopes in the incoming government, I wish to point out some things which as citizens we can tackle them at individual level and leave the rest to the government and God.

TRIBALISM
Ethnicity is not a bad thing as we all belong to our individual tribes and we were not in a position to make a choice of what tribe to belong. Negative ethnicity is what we can fight from individual level to national level. When we learn to embrace each other as brothers and sisters who belong to one mother: Kenya, then we can learn to ignore our tribal differences and co-exist with each other.
Having different political opinions however strong or extreme they are is not tribalism as many people would wish us to believe. It is too bad for Kenyans to associate tribalism with politics as we have many people of different tribes supporting certain political agendas that suit their own democratic will that has nothing to do with ethnicity.

NEPOTISM
The favor shown by someone in power to friends and relatives when appointing people in positions is nepotism and this to a large extent has resulted in having many people working in positions that hardly suit them.
When you are in power what merits do you use to select those to work for you and with you? Fair selections are based on merits and not favors. This way we can fight corruption in both low and high places

POVERTY
Poverty is among the major issues affecting our society and the fight to eradicate poverty begins with me and you by working hard, having diligence with your work, assuming responsibility when managing anything that is within our reach, etc.
Many people, it is a fact that they have the capabilities to be above poverty line but remain below the line due to their own destructive behaviors e.g. Laziness, irresponsibility etc.
People in all levels of the society should be in the front-line of fighting poverty with whatever little resources they have. Those in rural areas can engage in income generating activities like irrigation schemes. Moreover, selfishness is also a major contributor to poverty, why not knock off that old anti-social habit and learn to live in harmony with the rest regardless of tribe, social position, religion etc?

ILL HEALTH
With the government promising to increase health facilities in Kenya, do you know that preventive medicine is more effective than curative medicine? There are so many unhealthy behaviors in our society that can easily be put to an end and people will enjoy living without diseases.
CONSIDER ARTICLE(8 guidelines to an ENJOYABLE LIFE: THE N.E.W.S.T.A.R.T PRINCIPLE) Which talks about enjoying a healthy life.

Just to mention a few, avoiding something like alcoholism, dangerous sexual behaviors, smoking, drug abuse, etc and observing something like temperance will go a long way to ensure that you stay a healthy disease free life.

ILLITERACY
Illiteracy makes people have difficulties in making the right decisions in life as they are not able to discern from right and wrong when confronted with tough decisions and mostly rely on other people who help them make decisions and this exposes them to lies and probability of getting misguided.
There are some cultures that do not take their girls to school in the belief that educating boys is more profitable and beneficial to the society than educating girls who will later get married.
As a parent you can ensure that your children gets quality education and as a learner you can ensure that you do your part to acquire knowledge as to enable you to be of help in the society.

INSECURITY
When you view everyone as your brother and sister regardless of any differences, you will surely enjoy peace. No one hates peace and many people will put all their differences aside to ensure that peace prevails. This begins with you and me. How well do you live with your neighbor, workmates, classmates, etc.
True peace is not absence of war but a quality of the mind. When all the factors that bring insecurity in the society are eliminated, then true peace will reign even in our hearts and souls. Let us strive to remove and eliminate all the factors that fuel insecurity and in this way we will have a stable society that enjoys peace and prosperity.
